Mission Beach is in the center of a long stretch of white sand that is locally known as "the Strand", and extends for over two miles. There is a host of amenities and restaurants in the area, making this the happening place during the long San Diego summer. The beach offers families a great and safe beach to play on, with full time lifeguards in the summer and a gentle slope that will make the kids happy. The surf here in the summer is small and gentle, making water fun a safe proposition.
The boardwalk consists of a narrow concrete ribbon of cement that runs the length of the strand. Cycling, jogging, roller bladeing and walking are all permitted, but must abide by the eight M.P.H. speed limit that has been imposed on the thoroughfare.
